I'm researching AML/KYC and compliance careers and would like to know which countries currently offer the strongest combination of job opportunities, career growth, and compensation.
In your experience, which jurisdictions have the highest demand for AML/KYC, Financial Crime, Sanctions Screening, Transaction Monitoring, and Compliance professionals? How do salaries compare across countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Singapore, the UAE, Australia, and major financial centers in Europe?
I'm also interested in factors beyond salary, such as work-life balance, job stability, regulatory environment, opportunities for career progression, and the likelihood of employers sponsoring foreign workers.
For those working in the field, which countries would you recommend for someone looking to build a long-term career in AML/KYC and compliance, and why?

The best countries for AML/KYC and compliance roles are usually the major financial hubs.
The United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, UAE, Ireland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Australia, and Canada generally offer strong opportunities because they have large banking, fintech, investment, and regulatory sectors.
For higher pay, the strongest markets are usually:
United States — often the highest salaries, especially in New York, fintech, banking, sanctions, and financial crime compliance.
Switzerland and Luxembourg — strong compensation, especially in private banking, asset management, and cross-border compliance.
United Kingdom — many AML/KYC roles in London, with good career progression, though salaries vary widely.
Singapore — strong demand in Asian financial markets, especially for financial crime, onboarding, and transaction monitoring.
UAE — growing market, often attractive for tax reasons and regional banking roles.
Canada and Australia — good stability and quality of life, though salaries may be lower than the US or Switzerland.
However, the “best” country depends on your work authorization, experience level, language skills, and whether you want banking, fintech, consulting, or regulatory roles. For long-term growth, I would focus not only on salary but also on gaining experience in sanctions, transaction monitoring, investigations, EDD, regulatory reporting, and financial crime risk management. Those areas usually lead to better-paid roles than basic document-checking KYC positions.
